Exciting Trail News!
Ellijay Mountain Bike Association (now, North Georgia Mountain Bike Association) has been working hard to obtain land and permits to build new trails in the surrounding counties. Here are some of those details.
1. New Trail at Talking Rock - Jasper is finally going to get their own trail system at Talking Rock. Have you ever noticed the scenic overlook just North of Big Uns BBQ on Hwy 515, that's where this 12-mile trail system is going to be, on the West side of Hwy 515. Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land has acquired this 200 +/- parcel of land and is developing a 12-mile bike optimized multi-use trail system and a disc golf course. Construction will begin shortly on the first 5 miles. They are just waiting on a permit. Southeastern Trust for Parks & Land would like to form a Friends of Talking Rock Park. If you want to be a part of this new park please let respond to: Mike@cartecaybikes.com.
2. Carters Lake New Trail Proposal - A concept plan for Ridgeway and Woodring Branch has been developed by Preston York of Flow Motion. This plan will revamp the Ridgeway Trails into several flow lines and add 11+/- trails to Woodring Branch. All these trails will offer a progression from beginner to advanced. Additional 11 +/- trail at Woodring Branch will have a connection to the campground, a 1.5-mile beginner loop, advanced loop - all total about 15 miles (including the Amadahy Trail). The plan has been submitted to USACE Carters Lake and we are waiting for approval. Once we have approval we will begin fundraising to pay for the construction. Be patient, this process takes time.
3. Aska Trail System Update - The Aska Challenge Cost/Share Agreement with USFS will be modified to putting all resources into the Longbranch Trail. Previously, the CCSA was to redo the rolling grade dips on Flat Branch. After 2 years these features have mellowed and with some hand work are functional and lots safer. All resources will go to Longbranch to create road to trail conversions on the whole length and reroute trail to and from a hardened creek crossing to make this a truly fun and beginner trail.
4. New Trail at Fruitkoff Area - A concept plan for approximately 5 +/- trails is being developed now by Keith McFadden. This trail system will be located at the end of the Green Mountain Trail off of FS Rd 711 on the lake. This area is very conducive to beginner/intermediate trail with its own trailhead. The views of the lake are awesome! The concept plan should be ready by the end of July.
Huge thanks to Mike & Terry Palmeri and Cartecay Bike Shop for all of their work to bring things plans together.
