Come join the Mulberry Gap Crew- work at Mulberry Gap, plus get awesome BENEFITS!

2024 we are continuing with our Gap Crew program!

Thank you to all of our amazing 2023 Weekend Crew Members! We truly appreciate your valuable time and interest in supporting our small business.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Why does this role look so different from your “regular” positions? (The hourly pay is much lower, and it’s only a limited number of days, etc.)

For years, people have offered to help on weekends in exchange for discounted stays and meals. Five years ago, we formalized this with a Weekend Volunteer Program.

Two years ago, we replaced our volunteer program with the Weekend Gap Crew program to comply with HR laws. The Gap Crew role is for those who want to help, have free time, and aim to "break even" on weekend visits.

Gap Crew positions offer a unique opportunity for a mutually beneficial arrangement with Mulberry Gap. If interested, read on for details.

For those seeking traditional employment, we also post part-time or full-time roles starting at $12-15 per hour.

Three Key Takeaways:

  1. PAY! Gap Crew Members will receive a pay rate ($10/hour), which will equal, or be about the same cost of your meals and stay at our discounted staff rates!

  2. CABINS!  In the past only car/van camping was free, and you had to pay for cabins or campsites. But now with staff discount pricing, your cabin or campsite (and meals) will be at such a cost that your weekend of working will make it a great deal!

  3. MORE Shifts! Because this process is a little different on our end, we’ll be seeking out folks who want to work 6-8 shifts/year, and limiting the program to just 5-6 individuals for 2024 (instead of 15-20 folks doing 2-4 weekends each).

What you do:

  • Commit to at least six (6) 2 day shifts a year.

  • Help out for ~5 hours on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday (2 days/week).
Basically helping guests, driving shuttles, talking trails and routes, wrangling firewood, cleaning cabins, folding laundry, checking the ever-important status of the toilet paper supply, etc. (This job requires you to be out and about, walking on steep terrain, and doing physical tasks).

  • Generally these shifts will be 9:45am-2:45pm.
*For special event weekends, hours may differ depending on needs.

  • Just let us know your availability when applying and we will be happy to chat! :)

  • Be a shining example of the welcoming and customer-focused culture at Mulberry Gap. :P

What you get:

  • $10/hour for ~10 hours.

  • Other than your shifts, the rest of the hours on your work days are yours to relax, go riding or hiking, hit the hot tubs, or do whatever you want!

  • 2 Mulberry Gap tee-shirts (up to a $50 value total) so everyone knows you’re “official” :)

  • 30% Staff Discount off retail items, snacks, beer, etc.

  • 30% Staff Discount on shuttles.

  • 30% Staff Discount off Cabin or Campsite stays on the nights you’ll be staying with us! (We do have a 2 night minimum on weekends, but as always check with us and we can see about a 1 night stay.)

    • Bringing family or friends? They’ll be able to cabin or camp with you as well, at a 30% Friends & Family Discount.

  • 70% Staff Discount off your meals (Friday Dinner, Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, and Sunday Breakfast & Lunch.)

    • Bringing family or friends? They’ll be able to eat any meals as well at the 30% Friends & Family Discount.

SIGN UP FOR MORE THAN SIX 2 DAY SHIFTS? EARN A FREE STAY PERK!

  • Earn 2 weekends of free camping or 1 free weekend in a cabin (for up to 2 individuals) when you don’t have any responsibilities. (Meals are not included)  This perk will be provided after you’ve fulfilled at least seven 2 day shifts. You can use this perk yourself, or gift it to someone else.

What are the requirements?

  • Be 21 years of age or older, 25 or older preferred.

  • Have at least 6 available “weekends” during the year (March- November) and be willing to commit to your scheduled days in January/February for half of the year.

  • Have a valid driver’s license, ability to pass a driving record check, and ability to drive the shuttle vehicles to shuttle locations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

+ Wait, so is this a volunteer position still, or a staff position?

Good question! It’s technically a paid staff position, but with a volunteer vibe. :) We get 10 extremely useful hours of your help, and you get discounted food and lodging with a ton of time to ride and relax at Mulberry Gap!

+ Ooh, is this going to kick me into another tax bracket?!

Probably not. 10 hours of work a visit at $10/hour is only $100 a visit.

+ Will it have all the normal “job” things like a background check, and paperwork?

Yup! (But we did that for volunteers, too).

+ What time exactly are the shifts?

Generally, 9:45am-2:45pm on Friday/Saturday, Saturday/Sunday, Sunday/Monday.

+ Can I work two nonconsecutive days?

We would really prefer having Gap Crew Members work two days in a row. Two days in a row counts towards your benefit of a free stay if you complete 7 “weekends”.

+ How do I know what days I’m working?

Our goal is to onboard our team members in January and February and then select shifts for the year right away! Dates will fall in March thru November. (December-February are quieter months)

+ How do the housing and meals payments work? Do you have to pay me and then I pay you?

Just like with other bookings, we do require payment upfront, but you will receive a paycheck just like normal the next week. :)

+ What happens if I want to bring more than one person? Like my whole family?

That’s great! Your friends and/or family members can stay with you using the 30% Friends and Family Discount off housing and food.  Who would say “no” to a discounted vacation?

+ I’m going to sign up for more than 6. I’m going to do 7 to get the free weekend stay. Do I have to complete ALL 7 before I can use my free camping or cabin weekend(s)?

Yes. :)

+ What if I decided to be a SUPER Gap Crew Member and do like DOUBLE the shifts? If I did 14 2 day shifts could I get 2 cabin stays (4 camping stays) instead of the 1 (or 2?)

Actually, yes! We’d be very impressed with your dedication :)

+ What if I want to do everything EXCEPT drive the shuttle? Can I still apply?

Yes… but…. the shuttle is such a key component of what we need to help make Mulberry Gap successful. If you have a ton of useful skills and are willing to help in the other areas (housekeeping, laundry, the office, food prep), but can’t drive the shuttle, you’re welcome to apply. We’ll certainly consider your application!

+ Now that I think about it, I might want a “real” job with you… without the housing and meals and just earning a normal paycheck… is THAT an option?

Quite possibly! Drop an email to Tori@mulberrygap.com and let her know that you’d be interested in a “job” job, she’ll be happy to let you know what options might be available. :)
