Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is Mulberry Gap?

Imagine a cross between a resort, a summer camp, a campground/"glampground," and an outdoor adventure hostel. That's Mulberry Gap! With cabins, campsites, shuttles, day passes, and great meals, we're an excellent base camp for outdoor adventure.

We're located in the heart of the designated Mountain Bike Capital of Georgia. We are surrounded by some of the best trails for mountain biking, gravel cycling, hiking, trail running, and outdoor exploration in the southeast; Pinhoti, Bear Creek, Mountaintown Creek, Windy Gap, and Milma along with forest service roads, which connect the trail options and can be accessed right out of our driveway.

We are here for everyone who wants to get outdoors, and when you finally arrange time to head to the mountains, there is great anticipation about the outdoor adventures that lie ahead. Whether it’s a week, a weekend or a day trip, you want to escape and immerse yourself in the thrills and challenges of the North Georgia Mountains!

+ Are you LGBTQ+ Friendly?

Absolutely! Mulberry Gap is a place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors! We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming community and to advocating for diversity in outdoor spaces. Mulberry Gap actively seeks participation by those in typically underrepresented groups including women, LGBTQ+ individuals, those from diverse races and cultures, and differently-abled outdoor participants.

+ What are your office hours?

Our Normal Business Hours:

  • Thursday-Sunday 9:00am-6:00pm
  • Monday 9:00am - 5:00pm. Our office is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays but day guests are still welcome to pre-book at www.mulberrygap.com/daypass. The gates will be closed and locked on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but all pre-registered guests/day guests will receive a gate code.

For 2024 Winter Closure, we will be closed onsite until February 29th, 2024. We are answering phone calls and emails Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm.

+ Which nights do you accept bookings?

Standard reservations are accepted Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

Reduced rate midweek bookings are available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights, although meals, shuttles, and other services are not available during this midweek time.

+ Do you have a maximum length stay?

We allow stays up to 10 nights at one time.

+ What is check-in time?

Check-in is 3:00 - 6:00 pm. However, you do have the option to come as early as 9:00 am to ride the trails.

+ What if I arrive after check-in hours?

All check-ins beyond 6:00 pm will have a labeled packet of information located in the Drop Box, and if applicable, a cabin key ready for a late arrival. Please notify us prior to 5 pm if this applies to you.

The Drop Box is located on the outside wall of The Barn at the top of the paved driveway. The Barn is the big red building on your left.

+ What is check-out time?

Guests should be vacated from their room / site by 11:00 am unless otherwise stated by a Mulberry Gap manager. There are times we are able to allow guests to stay a bit longer. Please talk to us about your specific circumstances.

+ Are you Pet Friendly? What is your Pet Policy?

Pets are allowed in campsites and cabins. Clean up after your pet and keep them restrained if necessary so they are not a nuisance or threat to other guests or dogs. If your dog will be joining you on the trails, and has not had experience on gravel trails and roads, you may consider shoes for them.

  • If at a campsite, they must be kept on a leash or runner. Fees are $10/per pet, per night.

  • If in a cabin, please bring a blanket for them to lay on to protect our rugs and bedding. Fees are $20/per pet, per night.

We do not offer boarding or dog-sitting services while you ride. The full Mulberry Gap Pet Policy can be found here: www.mulberrygap.com/pet-policy

+ What is your Smoking Policy?

We are a non-smoking facility. We have a $150.00 fee for smoking inside any of our buildings.

+ What is your Firewood Policy?

You may review our Firewood Policy here.

+ What is your "Lights Out" Policy?

First and foremost, be respectful! Because we are small and private, this is an excellent facility for small groups of friends to gather and enjoy their time together. If one group reserves the entire camp, a great deal of leniency can be shown. However, if multiple guests are in camp, a reasonable lights out, no noise policy should be observed. Several gathering places are available away from others wanting to sleep. Above all, please be considerate of others! Quiet Hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:30am.

+ What times are meals served?

  • Breakfast is served at 8:30 am with coffee on at 7:30 am.
  • Packed lunches will be available for pick up by 9:45 am following breakfast.
  • Dinner is served at 6:00 pm.

Meal times are not flexible. It is recommended to arrive promptly for the best dining experience. Guests will not receive a refund for missing a meal, however, with advanced notice, we are happy to save your plate which will be placed in the guest fridge in The Barn with your name on it. A microwave is located near the guest fridge.

+ Do you have Wi-Fi?

We want your stay at Mulberry Gap to be as enjoyable as possible. We are situated off the beaten path at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. When you visit our property, you can expect to be greeted by a serene natural environment. While we offer modern amenities, being in a gap presents challenges for modern conveniences like high speed Wi-Fi. We have added Starlink internet to our property and it is the strongest by our office and The Barn. There are times (during inclement weather) that this internet may not be available.

+ Is cell phone service available?

Despite our best efforts, there is no cell phone service available on our property. A land line, located in The Barn (open 24/7), is available for your use. You are welcome to call long distance.

+ Can I watch my football team?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The Barn is open to our guests 24/7 and has a 60-inch flat screen TV with a sports package so you can stay up to date with your favorite sports team.

The Barn also has books, movies, mini-bikes, life size jenga, cornhole, cards and plenty of table top games for adults and children.

+ Do your campsites have hook ups?

Due to the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resource restrictions, our campsites cannot be equipped with water hook ups, nor do we have a dump station onsite. There are three locations with electric hook up (up to 30 amp) for tent (Barn Camps 1 & 2) or RV users (Group Camp 2). Tents are also welcome in Group Camp 2.

+ What's the maximum size RV you accept?

Due to the layout of the property, we can accept up to one 30' rig at Group Camp 1 (no electric, water, septic). We can accept up to one 25' rig at Group Camp 2 (only electric, no water, septic).

If we don't fit your needs, see our friends at Fort Mountain State Park a few miles up the road. We would love for you to visit us by purchasing a Day Pass and have access to shuttles, etc. Sign up for meals to get an even better Mulberry Gap experience.

+ Where are the hot tubs, bathrooms, and showers?

Our unique bathhouses are conveniently located near the sleeping cabins and camping area. We have two bathhouses on site with a total of 4 showers and 3 toilets per gender. One bathhouse is shared, the other is private which is a perfect option for couples or families with young children who need assistance with showering/dressing. Each bathhouse is kept clean, has plenty of hot water and is stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion along with a hair dryer. The bathhouses are kept warm in the cooler months and fan cooled during the summer.

We have two cozy barrel hot tubs located beside the brook that runs through the property behind the cabins. Relax while enjoying the moon, endless stars and rustling trees. The hot tubs have ozonators and are sanitized daily. Hot tubs close at 11:00pm. Please be considerate of nearby guests.

+ Is there a Map of the Property?

Yup! You can check it out right Here.

If you're looking for maps for hikes, mountain bike, or gravel rides, or other local trails and routes, you can find those HERE

+ How do your shuttles work?

We are happy to provide shuttle services to most trailheads! We understand not everyone is up to the amount of climbing it takes to reach some of the trails. [Fees] for our Trails & Route Orientation Sessions (and their accompanying complimentary shuttles) are dependent upon the distance and time it takes to shuttle you to trailhead and are priced per person.

+ What are your peak seasons and seasonal weather conditions?

We are open most of the year and experience peak season during spring and fall. Our area is attractive as a get away from the extreme heat of southern climates and from the snow and frigid cold of the northern climates. Climate for Ellijay (our mountain location is typically 8-10 degrees cooler than Atlanta in summer):

  • Average Rainfall - 60.4 inches annually
  • Average Temperature - 85 degrees Summer / 35 degrees Winter

Spring - Wildflowers and daffodils begin in mid March, peak in May and early June.

Summer - Rhododendron and mountain laurel bloom mid May–July with more wildflowers.

Fall - Leaves peak the end of October and first week of November.

Winter - Snowfall is beautiful but sporadic and only remains on the ground a few days. All trails remain open.**
