Women's Intermediate-Advanced MTB Clinic
Women’s Intermediate - Advanced Clinic
This clinic is ideal for women who mountain bike regularly (10-15 miles 2-3x/week) and want to hone their skill set. Emphasis is on proper body position to suit the terrain, techniques to make single track riding safer, more fun, more efficient and increase confidence. This clinic will go over the fundamentals and specific maneuvers like wheel lifts, cornering, and switchbacks. While the skill portion is more suited for all, the on trail riding portion requires fitness enough to ride in the mountains. The Sunday ride portion of the weekend is usually 18 miles with over 3,000 feet of climbing and a general moving time of over 3 hours. If you have decent bike fitness, want to dial in and learn new skills and enjoy the company of other women who ride, this is a great opportunity for you. Shanna has lots of experience teaching other women (as well as men) and continually seeks to improve her skills as a rider and instructor so you can learn better. She is also an amazing rider herself but has a relaxed, laid-back approach to shredding and teaching.
In summary, you should have a strong baseline fitness, willingness to learn and experiment all while having lots and lots of FUN!
This clinic is limited to 6 participants. This clinic welcomes ALL women, non-binary folks, and anyone whose gender identity aligns with this this type of group.
Instructor: Shanna Powell
Shanna loves riding bikes and rides every bike she can every place she can, because each one performs skills and maneuvers in slightly different ways. Shanna also takes skills clinics every chance she can. There is just so much to learn and we can always ride better! She would also rather be rad than fast if she had to choose one. Riding bikes has given her the opportunity and reason to travel to many new places and meet many new faces. She has been riding bikes everywhere since 2006. Shanna rides bikes because bikes are fun and she loves sharing adventures on bikes with others. Some of the best experiences she has had in life have been with awesome bike people riding bikes in amazing places like Mulberry Gap. “Riding has been such a beautiful, empowering part of my life.” Shanna has recently completed her PMBI Level 2 and BICP Level 2 Skills Instructor certifications and is very excited to share her love of riding through teaching. One-Day Ladies Beginner's Clinic
Join PMBIA certified mountain bike instructor, Jennifer Braddock, on August 31, for a one-day (ladies only) beginner mountain bike skills clinic at Mulberry Gap.
About this Clinic:
Do you find yourself riding around roots and rocks on the trail? Are you struggling to get up that hill? Maybe you avoid a particular trail because it’s just “too hard?” While you may not ride away at the end of the day doing bunnyhops and tail whips, this clinic will provide you with the strength and confidence to make your rides more fun and memorable. Led by certified instructor Jennifer Braddock, we will break down the fundamental skills needed to keep your wheels on the ground, momentum stout, and stoke level high. “I had been riding for years and didn’t realize I had such terrible technique – I was able to quickly turn around my bad habits, and it improved my riding drastically.” So whether you just purchased your first mountain bike or have been hitting the dirt for a few years, we will share some tips and knowledge in a chill, no pressure environment so that you feel safe and in control next time you take it to the trails!
Things we will cover, but not limited to, include:
Stability, and how to climb and descend
How we move our bodies and adjust to terrain
Cadence and Shifting
Braking techniques
Picking lines
We will also go over some basic maneuvers that will aid in technical spots. Space is limited, so let's get rolling!
Meet Your Instructor:
A career as a camera technician in film and television brought Jennifer to Atlanta in December of 2014. She made her first trip to Mulberry Gap the following summer and immediately fell in love. Because her job is both physically and mentally demanding, she has found cycling to be a great form of therapy. When she’s on her bike she is in her “happy place,” especially when she is in Ellijay, which she considers her home away from home. Jen has been riding bikes for about 15 years and she rides pretty much every discipline; you’ll find her on the road, the pump track, on gravel, single track, or at the bike park…what she loves about being on a bike is the freedom to explore and get rad. Bikes are her addiction and she prefers to keep it fun - she really loves to slow down to take in the scenery. Jennifer is a guide at Mulberry Gap and you’ll find her there often with her trail mutt Scottie. She serves on the MTB Atlanta (SORBA) Executive Board and loves doing trail maintenance. Jen is PMBI Level 1 certified and is an Instructor for Cartecay Bike Shop and works with the Cartecay Youth Development team.
“I had been riding for years and didn’t realize I had such bad technique – it was quick to turn around my bad habits, and it improved my riding drastically. I hope I can share what I’ve learned with you in a fun, no pressure environment!”

One-Day Ladies Beginner's Clinic (Fall)
Join PMBIA certified mountain bike instructor, Carol Baldwin, on October 27, for a one-day (ladies only) beginner mountain bike skills clinic at Mulberry Gap.
Meet Your Instructor:
Carol was lured into the woods by ribbons of single track in the outskirts of Atlanta, GA in early 2011 and never looked back. After several years of riding with friends and learning from her mistakes on the trail, she took her first clinic with Ladies AllRide and couldn’t believe how much progress she made in one weekend of riding. She loved it so much that a few years later she got her PMBIA Level 1 coaching certification so she could spread the stoke and help others get rad on bikes. Carol’s goal in coaching is to help riders develop new skills that help them have more fun on their bikes.
In life outside the trail, Carol works as a camera assistant in the film industry and lives in Atlanta, GA with her boyfriend and two dogs. She’s happy to report that she no longer has more bikes than furniture in her house.
Come join PMBIA Level 1 Coach Carolyn Baldwin for a Women’s One Day Skills Clinic at Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way. Participants will get a chance to work on the fundamentals of mountain biking and build their skills. Topics covered include body positioning, cornering, wheel lifts, climbing, descending, switchbacks, navigating obstacles, and more.
This clinic is geared towards newer riders with some biking experience under their belt as well as riders who have been at it for a while but are looking to build more confidence on the trail. If you consider yourself a beginner or advanced beginner, then this clinic is perfect for you!
The day will consist of a morning skills session, a lunch break, and an afternoon skills session to wrap things up. We’ll spend our whole day outside roaming around the Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way property. Due to the amount of material we will be covering, participants should expect to spend most of the day practicing off the trail. Make sure you bring a fully functioning bike, helmet, plenty of water, snacks, and be ready to have a great time!

8:30 am: Breakfast (only included if staying for the weekend or reserved in advance).
